Amersham & District Pool League — Official Rules

Player Eligibility

A player may only represent one team per season, unless formally transferred.

Transfers require League Secretary approval, a £5 transfer fee, and are not permitted after the halfway point of the season.

Match Conditions & Scheduling

All matches must start at 8:00pm on the scheduled date or other scheduled start time. If there are disputes the time scheduled on the league site is deemed the correct time.

In the event a team or player arrives late the following rules apply, unless agreed in advance between the team captains:

  • 10 mins late — first leg may be claimed
  • 20 mins late — second leg may be claimed
  • 30 mins late — match may be claimed

Rearranged matches require League Fixtures Secretary approval and should be played within 5 days of the original fixture.

Playing conditions (table and lighting) must be reasonable and agreed by both captains. Disputes must be reported immediately to the League Secretary.

Captain’s Responsibilities

Captains are responsible for the behaviour and conduct of their team.

  • If a team cannot fulfil a fixture, the opposing captain must be given at least 24 hours’ notice.
  • Captains must ensure all players understand league, cup, singles, and doubles formats.
  • Captains are responsible for entering players and playing order on the league website.
  • Captains are responsible for submitting match results by the required deadline.
  • Failure to submit accurate or timely information may result in penalties.
  • Captains are not obliged to agree to match rearrangements; refusals carry no right of appeal.
Player Entry & Order of Play
  • All players must be entered on the league website before the match result is submitted.
  • Once submitted, player names and order of play cannot be changed.
  • The submitted playing order must be followed.
Break & Order of Play
  • The break is decided by lagging.
  • The winner of the lag chooses whether to break or to give the break to their opponent.
  • In singles and doubles competitions the break is decided by lagging only in the first frame and alternates thereafter.
Cups, Singles & Doubles

Administered by the League Fixture Secretary

Singles and doubles matches are normally best of 3 frames, last 16 matches are best of 5, quarter finals best of 7, semi finals best of 9 and finals best of 11 frames. Cup matches are best of 11 frames.

  • Referees are not normally allocated for singles or doubles.
  • Doubles are played as Scotch Doubles.
  • No conferring once a turn has begun.
  • After the break, the incoming player nominates the colour if a ball is potted.
  • Winners are responsible for ensuring results are submitted on the league website or by sending them to amershampool@gmail.com.
Points & Penalties

League Points

  • Win: 3 points
  • Draw: 1 point
  • Claimed match: 7-0 win

Penalties

Penalty points may be issued for:

  • Late or missing result submissions
  • Failure to fulfil a fixture
  • Incorrect or incomplete player/result entry
  • For every 3 penalty points, 1 league point is deducted.
  • If multiple errors occur for a single match, all points from that match may be forfeited.
League Position

If teams finish level on points, positions are decided by:

  1. Frame difference
  2. Head-to-head result
  3. Head-to-head frame difference
  4. Play-off match (promotion/relegation only)
Promotion & Relegation
  • The top two teams in each division are promoted.
  • The bottom two teams are relegated.
Complaints & Appeals
  • All complaints and appeals must be submitted in writing to: amershampool@gmail.com
  • Only written submissions will be considered.
  • Appeals are reviewed at the next committee meeting and responded to in writing.
