I'm sorry you feel that entering this event will jeopardise your unbeaten run of tournament victories.

Be reassured however that I will contact you directly when an event is announced that exactly matches your particular standard.

At the end of the day, the SPA are a national organisation. As you well know, there is a huge variety in the standard of pool players, but there are far, far more opinions on how they should be categorised. As soon as criteria for competition entry becomes opinion based, and not arbitrary, that is where the problems begin.

The SPA are as least attempting to address this, and give players who would normally not win an open event the chance to at least compete. There is also advanced discussion this year about introducing a second "grassroots" event for players who do not normally take part in any events out with local league level.

We also have the option to send second teams to the Super events, who would start at the bottom division (after qualifying) but unfortunately the demand from the players in not there.

So, in summary, to say the SPA do nothing for lower standard players is a bit harsh to say the least.

Ewan, there never was tournaments for average players, only in the last few years has this happened. When i started out you played in one big tournament against the best players, it was the only way to get better!
The mentality of players these days is WEAK!!

I don't mind playing in big tournaments against a high standard, been there done that. There just needs to be something in between to encourage more people to play. Lindsay ran events last year that were very good which got people from div2 and 3 involved

If your looking for an intermediate tournament you could ask Derek again. His last 5 entry tournament was a roaring success ;-) ;-)

I'm getting bored repeating myself. Just because I enter someone to the SPA, it doesn't mean they will be accepted. Anyone not accepted will receive their entry fee back.

Keep em coming guys. If you know someone who may not come on the forum/Facebook. please let them know. The more entries we have, the more qualifiers we will have at the finals.

Before anyone asks, I'm on holiday for the finals!
